After assembling my portable system, do I need to add anti-freeze if filling with water? Yes, we recommend adding 2 gallons of non-toxic, RV type anti-freeze to the portable base prior to filling with water. The base needs to be completely filled with ballast to prevent it from tipping over. Ballast must be inside, not outside the base. Placing weights or objects on top of the base that can slide or fall is a dangerous attempt to increase stability. Never use a system with a leaky base, even if the leak is small. Lay the basketball system down until it can be replaced or repaired. The base may also be filled with sand. We recommend filling with water as sand may limit your ability to move the base from place to place on the playing surface due to the weight. Is the paint on my pole system weather resistant? Yes, Huffy® Sports uses a powder coating process to paint the poles. This process coats a bare metal object with an electrostatic powder, and then bakes it on at a very high temperature. This is an extremely durable process and is stronger than traditional paint. All paint will eventually rust over time. You can prevent the effects of rust with proper maintenance. Repair rust spots or scratches by lightly sanding the affected area and applying rust preventative, high gloss enamel paint to the affected area. If rust has penetrated through the pole at any point replace it immediately as it is no longer stable for safe play. How often do I need to check my basketball system and pole assembly to make sure it is secure and working properly? You should never assume the performance of your basketball equipment is the same as it was the day before. With an outdoor playing system, the life and performance is impacted by many variables including the climate, and exposure to corrosive substances. For safety reasons, review this list before play:
